Key points

  • A fragment of alpha-MSH made of lysine, proline and valine (residues 11-13).
  • Evidence is animal and cell only; there are no controlled human data.
  • Not FDA-approved for any use.

What it is

KPV is the three-amino-acid sequence Lys-Pro-Val, taken from the tail end of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). It weighs about 342 daltons, which makes it a very small peptide.

How researchers study it

Lab work covers epithelial barrier integrity, mucosal inflammation models and cytokine signaling in cultured cells. These are screening-type systems.

What the evidence shows

Everything published so far is animal or cell-based. No controlled human data exist, so it would be wrong to say anything about effects in people.

Regulatory status

KPV is not FDA-approved for any use. A July 2026 FDA advisory panel gave a favorable, non-binding vote on a compounding question.
